What Exactly Is a PDO thread?
PDO is the abbreviation for polydioxanone. Polydioxanone is a colorless, crystalline, biodegradable synthetic polymer.
PDO threads have been used in the medical field for decades. PDO "sutures" were introduced in 1982 as an innovative material used to stitch topical cuts and are also used during surgery.
These PDO threads were the first "invisible" stitches. More technically, the first mono-filament absorbable sutures. Doctors and patients alike loved them due to their superior tensile strength, ultra-thin filament size (diameter smaller than fishing line), ability to glide through tissue with ease, decreased risk of infection, and the fact that they are slowly absorbable by the body!
You may have had "absorbable stitches" for a cut or incision at some point and been surprised to learn there is no need to return to have your "stitches removed." These are PDO threads! Doctors and patients began to notice that where PDO sutures were used, the patients' skin was smoother, lifted, smaller pores, hydrated, and overall younger-looking. Research showed that these early PDO "sutures" were stimulating collagen and elastin where ever they were used on the body! Enter the cosmetic and aesthetic field!
Today PDO threads are heralded as a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that stimulate your body's own collagen and elastin production.
PDO threads actually teach your skin to grow younger! These "smart threads" are one of our favorite lines due to the long-lasting results with little to no side-effects (if you are vigilant during placement you can avoid bruising).
The only downside to consider - if you want "next-day-results" you'll should consider a different treatment such as "barbed thread lifts" or a face lift, or dermal fillers. Our PDO threads aren't barbed (we offer smooth and screw type) so the immediate results aren't dramatic. However, the progressive results just keep getting better over time. Your body's natural collagen and elastin respond to PDO threads and cause lifting, tightening, pore minimization, and volumization for up to 2 years!
Our staff agrees that PDO threads are perfect if you want to "look and grow younger" each day, gradually over time, (no shocking face-lift transformation) with one lunchtime treatment that continues to work for over a year.
